River Plate’s Julián Álvarez, equalled a long-standing Copa Libertadores record as he scored six goals in River’s 8-1 win over Alianza Lima on Wednesday night.
The Argentine striker, who has already signed for Manchester City and will head to the Etihad in a few weeks, tied Blooming’s Juan Sánchez for the most goals in a single match in the competition, which has stood since 1985.
Of course, the 22-year-old took home a pair of match balls for his mind-blowing effort.
Earlier on Wednesday, Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano confirmed that Álvarez will not be going on loan this summer.
“We’ve had many offers from clubs to loan Julian Alvarez, but he is not going to leave. “He will do preseason with us and I think he will stay. Barcelona? No, Barcelona were not interested.”
