Chucky Lozano has become a nightmare for opposing defenses

At 22 years old, he is one of just two Mexicans in the Eredivisie and now he hopes to stand out in his first World Cup.

As part of a promising generation with Pachuca alongside Rodolfo Pizarro, Jurgen Damm, and Erick Gutiérrez, Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano knew how to stand out and become the team’s most valuable player. Before Los Tuzos protected him with a contract renewal and a termination clause of €20m, he became champion of Liga MX and conquered the CONCACAF Champions League. That summer, he was acquired by PSV Eindhoven and he would no longer be a part of Pachuca’s Club World Cup run.

Despite the difficulties of changing residences and speaking a new language, adapting to the new league was not a problem. Lozano has become the nightmare of his Dutch rivals, where fouling him seems to be the only way to stop him. Lozano has scored 16 goals and distributed eight assists and was fundamental to PSV taking back the Eredivisie title.

Being selected for the Mexican team since his departure from Liga MX has been indisputable. He made his National Team debut in a 2016 friendly against Senegal, where he set up his Pachuca team-mate Rodolfo Pizarro en route to a 2-0 victory. He scored his first goal for Mexico against Canada in March 2016 in a 3-0 World Cup Qualifying victory. His young age prompted many questions when he was first called up, however, these questions soon turned to praise because of his ability to take over the right wing and make a difference.

It is just his first season in Europe and Russia 2018 is shaping up to be his chance to stand out and take the next step to becoming a global superstar. Don’t be surprised if he lands in a top European league after the tournament.
