Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the appointment of Christophe Galtier as their new head coach following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino took over in the French capital back in January 2021 and has largely underwhelmed during his time at the club. After failing to secure the Ligue 1 title in his first season, the Argentine presided over another disappointing 2021/22 campaign which did bring league success but was headlined by poor form in the Champions League.

On Tuesday, the former Spurs' boss exit was finally confirmed, with Galtier coming in to replace him.

"I am moved, proud," Galtier said. "I was at the Parc des Princes 45 minutes ago, I saw the sentence 'Ici c'est Paris' [Here it is Paris]. With this sentence comes expectations. We will have to make people happy.

"I am prepared. If I have accepted these responsibilities, it means that I am capable of doing it. Alone, it is very difficult, but we are stronger together."

Galtier, who led Lille to a shock Ligue 1 title in 202, previously worked with PSG football advisor Luis Campos at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, with the pair working wonders on a comparatively tiny budget.

"The presence of Luis Campos was a determining factor," Galtier said. "The conversations I had with him led me to accept this position."

Last season Galtier guided Nice to a fifth-placed finish and a Coupe de France final before being replaced by Lucien Favre at the end of June.
