Speaking in the wake of his Nice side’s shock home defeat to Metz yesterday, manager Christophe Galtier has indicated that an overhaul in the team will be needed in order to respond to the result.

His words transcribed in L’Équipe, the Ligue 1 winner notably lamented his team’s approach to the start of their games this season.

“We made the match difficult for ourselves. We made a massive error on [Centonze’s] goal. When you’re up against an athletically strong team that defends deep, it’s the worst case scenario. What I regret is the way we started the match, with a team that was not very compact and which was deep.”

“We had a lot of waste as well, Metz posed us a lot of problems. […] Calvin [Stengs] and Justin [Kluivert] hadn’t played for a while, maybe we had a lack of reference points. But Metz didn’t steal the win.”

“What frustrates me a lot as that we are repeating the same mistakes or behaviour at the start of games. It was the case against Montpellier, against Clermont. I need to have a think about how we can maybe be less open, to wait a bit more before going on the counter, maybe changing somethings in terms of the profiles of the players we play. And that’s what I’m going to do. When it’s repeating itself, you can’t just stay put. Things will definitely need to change.”
