Paris Saint-Germain boss Christophe Galtier has revealed why he thinks Kylian Mbappe stayed at the club over the summer despite interest from Real Madrid.

The 2018 World Cup winner looked nailed-on for a move to the Bernabeu earlier this year but rejected Los Blancos' advances in favour of signing a new deal in Paris.

Galtier has the mammoth task of creating harmony in PSG's blockbuster squad. He has started well, taking the Ligue 1 champions to 13 wins from their 15 league games this season as well as setting up a last 16 Champions League clash with Bayern Munich. They are unbeaten in all competitions so far under Galtier.

However, there are constant question marks over the futures of Mbappe and Lionel Messi. Mbappe's links with Real continue to persist while Barcelona eye a return for Messi with both players currently scoring for their countries at the World Cup.

However, Galtier maintained that both players are happy where they are and didn't entertain notions of either leaving.

He told Marca: "There are many parameters. The first is his [Mbappe] desire. Does he want to continue at PSG? Is he happy here? The first thing to know is whether he wants to continue.

"All these types of decisions are made between the player and Luis Campos.

"I don't think it was the money. Because world-class players whether in Spain, England or France earn it. They are not for the money. I think Kylian simply loves PSG.

"It's the same situation as Leo [Messi]. When a player is happy somewhere he has no reason to leave. To be happy you have to enjoy. From the moment that the player enjoys on the field and that he feels that he is in a team that can win, he has no reason to leave.

Asked if Mbappe is happy at PSG he responded: "Yes, for sure. Guaranteed."

Then quizzed if he would bet his house on the France start being in Paris next season, he added: "Which one? [laughs]. I ask you another question: If he is happy, why shouldn't Kylian be here next season?"

's first game following the World Cup is a home clash with Strasbourg on Wednesday 28 December, with the World Cup final being played ten games earlier.
