Speaking ahead of his Nice team’s trip to Troyes on Sunday, Christophe Galtier notably hit out at Algeria manager Djamel Belmadi in the wake of the controversy involving striker Andy Delort’s temporary international retirement.

His words transcribed in France Bleu Azur, Galtier reacted to Belmadi’s assertion that Nice prevent their African internationals from joining up with their teams, as well as his lambasting of Delort’s decision to focus on Nice as “the big joke of the year” yesterday on RMC Sport.

“I knew Belmadi when he was a player. He was already over-the-top on the pitch, yesterday I found him very over-the-top again. He should mind his own team and let us work in peace.”

“When a player is called up for their national team, we have to let him go, that’s how it happens in every club in the world, it’s the rules. It’s too easy to say that Nice don’t want to send their players out on international duty. To put the responsibility on the club is very dishonest. It’s creating an unhealthy and dangerous climate around Nice.”
