According to L’Équipe, Al-Duhail manager Christophe Galtier has emerged as a potential candidate to succeed Stefano Pioli in charge of AC Milan. The former PSG manager is set to return to manage in Europe at the end of this season after spending one season managing in Qatari domestic football.

One club has stolen a march on other European clubs in an attempt to bring Galtier back to Europe and that appears to be Milan. Pioli is expected to leave the San Siro at the end of the season after a difficult season for the Rossoneri. This has led RedBird, the owners of the Milanese club, to draft a shortlist of predecessors for Pioli with Galtier as one of the names on the list. Galtier was previously linked with taking over at Napoli.

Former PSG player Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to have a big role to play in the appointment of the next Milan coach. The former Sweden international has been appointed as a senior advisor by RedBird. Galtier befriended Ibrahimovic during his time in charge of Lille.

A meeting scheduled for next week

A meeting has been scheduled between Galtier’s representatives and Milan officials over the potential of taking over at the San Siro next week, according to L’Équipe. It remains to be seen how the former Lille and Nice manager feels about Milan’s interest but it lines up with his desire to return to Europe next season.
