Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier has confirmed that Presnel Kimpembe will miss the rest of the season after suffering an Achilles tendon injury in the 3-0 win over Olympique Marseille yesterday.
Kimpembe has struggled with injury problems for most of the campaign, making just 15 appearances in all competitions.
The France international first suffered a hamstring problem in September last year, which ruled him out of action for over a month.
Upon his return, he struggled with an Achilles problem that saw him miss another seven games for Les Parisiens before making his comeback in the 3-1 defeat to AS Monaco.
He only made a ten-minute cameo against Monaco but lasted 90 minutes in the subsequent 4-3 victory over Lille.
However, the Frenchman only lasted 16 minutes in the Le Classique showdown before being stretchered off after feeling severe pain in his Achilles.
He was replaced by Danilo Pereira and PSG went on to secure a thumping victory thanks to a Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe masterclass.
“Kimpembe has unfortunately suffered a serious injury and will be out until the end of the season,” Galtier confirmed (via RMC) after the game.
“He has very bad pain in his Achilles tendon – we think it’s serious. With the return of Presnel, I wanted us to find a better defensive base and have more density in midfield.”
Kimpembe’s latest setback is a massive blow to Galtier, with PSG’s backline struggling for solidity, having managed just one clean sheet since they beat sixth-tier side US Pays de Cassel 7-0 in the Coupe de France last month.
PSG take on Nantes up next before travelling to Germany for their Champions League round of 16 tie decider at the Allianz Arena.
