Sky Germany reports that Hoffenheim attacking midfielder Christoph Baumgartner will join RB Leipzig on a permanent deal.

The deal is said to be worth at least €27m with bonus payments also to be included. The 23-year-old will sign a contract at Leipzig until 2027. The move will end his six-year association with Hoffenheim, as Baumgartner joined the club’s academy in 2017. Baumgartner’s medical has also been completed and the move will be announced in the coming days.

Previously, it was reported that Baumgartner was not seen as a replacement for Dominik Szoboszlai but is being brought in as an alternative to the Hungarian. The future of Szoboszlai continues to be questioned as clubs from the Premier League show interest in the 22-year-old.

Leipzig will continue to add depth to their attacking roles as the club has also shown interest in Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho and Manchester City’s Cole Palmer. At the same time, they continue to negotiate a deal for RC Lens forward Lois Openda.

The signing of Baumgartner will be Leipzig’s fourth of the summer. Before the end of the season, Leipzig had already agreed on deals for Benjamin Seško and Nicolas Seiwald of Red Bull Salzburg and then at the end of the season they announced the signing of Leopold Zingerle from Paderborn as a backup goalkeeper.
