Inter could well find themselves forced to sell Christian Eriksen in the summer, as per a report in the Italian media today.

Corriere dello Sport’s print edition said it would be ‘very helpful’ if the Nerazzurri could offload the midfielder’s heavy salary, as they seek to cut costs ahead of next season.

Eriksen – who says he is living the best moment of his career now at Inter – has lots of interest from clubs in the Premier League, and he might not be the only player Inter consider selling.

The Nerazzurri would also need to think about any serious offers they received for players such as Lautaro Martinez, Stefan de Vrij, Milan Skriniar, Achraf Hakimi and Marcelo Brozovic.

Inter do not intend to sell Romelu Lukaku, Nicolo Barella or Alessandro Bastoni but the Rome-based paper seemed to suggest that they were the only three players considered to be unsellable.

Another route to raising funds for Inter will be to sell off unwanted fringe players, such as Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez, but the report warned it would be difficult to find new clubs for both.

Inter could also look to sell off young players to raise money and reduce their wage bill by offloading their highest earners, and then there is the matter of Antonio Conte.

Conte would need to accept a very limited transfer campaign if he stayed, CdS added, or alternatively he could agree to reduce his €12 million annual salary or find an agreement for a mutual separation.

Inter have three Serie A matches in the next eight days but then they will need to discuss the matter with Conte immediately after that.

CdS’s report comes after Inter president Steven Zhang met with numerous club directors and employees yesterday and outlined the need to slash costs ahead of next season.
