Christian Eriksen reveals who is to blame for Man Utd's shocking loss to Crystal Palace | OneFootball

Christian Eriksen has claimed Manchester United players will take the blame for their 4-0 loss at Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The Red Devils fell to their worst defeat of the season at Selhurst Park, falling to goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta, Tyrick Mitchell and two from summer transfer target Michael Olise.

Erik ten Hag was critical of his players in his post-match press conference, and midfielder Eriksen agreed that those on the pitch simply weren't good enough and shouldn't hide behind the excuse of the first-team's injury crisis.

"A big disappointment. We just had an off-day and we weren't in it," Eriksen told BBC Sport. "It is what it is. We can't really change the injury things. We have to do what we can on the pitch to change it. Today it didn't matter who we played. Everyone could have done better.

"I don't know what the conclusion is for how it went. We weren't good enough.

"We tried to do what we could but we were not good enough. We'll take the blame as players."

United were without several key players, including captain Bruno Fernandes, due to injury, while Ten Hag was forced to put together a makeshift defence consisting of two right-backs in Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, midfielder Casemiro and 36-year-old Jonny Evans.

Ten Hag's men are now in real danger of missing out on European qualification having dropped to eighth in the Premier League standings, with Chelsea and Newcastle United overtaking them following respective wins at the weekend.

United host Newcastle after taking on title-chasing Arsenal on Sunday, while they end the campaign with a tough trip to Brighton.

If results go against them, United could end the season in the bottom half of the table - their lowest finish in the Premier League era to date is seventh.
