Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen is not likely to be able to return to the pitch in a Nerazzurri thanks to health and safety regulations in Italy.

This according to today’s print editions of both Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport and Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the results of medical tests should confirm that a move away will be necessary for the Dane soon.

Eriksen is still fitted with the ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrulator) which he has had since suffering a heart attack during the Euros.

The device is not allowed in Italian football by the regulations under the law, and if tests confirm that he must continue to be fitted with it then he will have to move away in order to make his return.

The judgment from Italian doctors on whether Eriksen is suitable to return could arrive as early as next week, and should he not be able to appear again for the Nerazzurri then he and the club will begin to consider the future apart from one another.

Most likely in this case, the Nerazzurri will terminate the midfielder’s contract by mutual consent, taking a capital loss but also saving on his salary, and allowing him to move to a league where he can play.

This could happen as early as January, depending on when Eriksen wishes to return to football.
