On Thursday, Santos announced the acquisition of Christian Cueva from Russian Premier League side Krasnodar.
According to multiple sources, the first year of the deal will be a loan with a three-year obligation to buy.
Santos will pay Krasnodar €6m (R$27m) for the Peruvian international attacker, with the first installment due by 31 January, 2020.
The midfielder arrives at the request of new manager Jorge Sampaoli.
Cueva is known very well in Brazil, as he played for São Paulo from 2016 to 2018 prior to his Russian move, scoring 20 goals in 89 matches.
Cueva becomes the second-most expensive transfer in Santos history, behind only Leandro Damião, who cost €10m (R$42m) in 2014.
With the Peruvian national team, Cueva has earned 52 caps and scored eight goals.
He was a member of the 2015 Copa America squad that finished third and helped guide his country to their first World Cup appearance in 36 years.
