The Blades boss has delivered a confident response when questioned about Ipswich Town's links to Ryan One.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has delivered a tongue-in-cheek proclamation that striker Ryan One is contracted at Bramall Lane for "20 years", after transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed Ipswich Town's interest in the teenager.

Romano, reporting via his X account on 10 April, claimed that the Tractor Boys have been monitoring One's progress with the Blades this season, and that the 18-year-old is on the club's shortlist of potential Liam Delap replacements this summer.

The Scottish youth international is one of the hottest young prospects in the Championship, and has been enjoying a breakthrough into Wilder's first-team squad this season.

One was signed by Sheffield United in September 2023, arriving from Scottish side Hamilton Academical.

"Don't worry" - Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder delivers emphatic Ryan One contract response amid Ipswich talk

Speaking via The Star ahead of Sheffield United's meeting with Plymouth Argyle, Wilder issued a confident response when questioned about the possibility of the club losing One this summer.

He said: "(in response to One being linked with Ipswich) Has he? I don't know where you get all these from. Well, (Romano) is the man in the know.

"Ryan One's under contract for the next 20 years here so don't worry about that. Ryan's got a huge future in front of him and his future is in a red and white shirt."

Unfortunately for Blades supporters, Wilder's "20 years" claim regarding One's contract status at Bramall Lane was just a figure of speech. However, the talented young centre-forward is tied down with the club until at least 2029.

"I want to build a future around all my players,” Wilder continued. "There are always players who’ll leave in the summer and come in the summer.

"I spoke to the owners about how we must secure our best players and talking about contract situations and making sure we don’t run contracts down, unless players don’t want to be here.

"Then you can’t really do anything about that, you can’t force them to sign. But there’s no sign of anybody this season talking about leaving or doesn’t want to come here. They’ve been all-in which they have to be and that’s the way it should be, and how it needs to be."

Sheffield United may need to fast track Ryan One role as likes of Liverpool catch wind of his Blades progress

Having quality young talent in your squad can be a double-edged sword, as whilst it's precisely what fans want to see, there's always the potential for big teams with big wallets to come and prize them away.

Liverpool appear to be one such club who could be lining up a swoop for Sheffield United's Scottish starlet, as the Reds are reported to have been watching him from a distance this season.

That was until a recent report from Rousing The Kop claimed that the Premier League frontrunners are now keen on accelerating a transfer for One, with their interest levels being described as 'red hot'.

Therefore, Wilder may need to provide guarantees to One that a big role awaits him at Bramall Lane from next season onwards, as otherwise, a move to Anfield could be very tough to turn down for the teenager.
