Chris Smalling’s return at risk of being delayed to February

Chris Smalling’s recovery from injury continues to be subject to numerous delays.

The Englishman is still nursing a chronic knee injury which has forced him to miss the last three months of action.

For the time being, Roma seem to be helpless in establishing a veritable timeline of recovery for the veteran defender.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Smalling is against undergoing any type of surgery on the injured knee.

At the time, however, the more conservative of physiotherapy which the player has been undergoing for the past several weeks have not resulted in any significant improvements.

The newspaper suggests there may be a further delay in Smalling’s return. Roma are afraid the centreback could only come back in February.
