The truth about their interest in the ex-Fulham number nine has emerged.

Chris Davies has confirmed that Birmingham City have plans to bring in more players before the end of the transfer window. Aleksandar Mitrovic, however, is not expected to be one of them.

Transfer windows under Knighthead seem like they are always going to be wild and wonderful for Blues. Last summer, the eventual League One winners broke a number of spending records for the division before they went on to set a new all-time best in points for both the third tier and the entire EFL.

A similar level of on-pitch success is unlikely to be replicated. Birmingham are, however, doing their damnedest to try and overshadow their exploits of a year ago in the transfer market.

11 signings have already been made, including the deal to make Taylor Gardner-Hickman's loan move from Bristol City permanent, but there are few signs of City stopping there as the remaining time left to make deals dwindles.

Chris Davies confirms Birmingham City transfer plans and drops Aleksandar Mitrovic claims

Speaking to talkSPORT's Tom Ross ahead of this weekend's match with Oxford United, the Birmingham boss has said that he wants to bring in a couple more players before the window shuts at 7pm on 1st September.

One of those additions is set to be Liverpool youngster Lewis Koumas, who has elected to move to St Andrew's amid interest from other Championship sides, including Wrexham.

Another talkSPORT member, Alex Crook, caused a bit of a stir among Birmingham circles after he suggested that Blues were considering a move for former Fulham striker Mitrovic.

The Championship record holder for most goals in one 46-game season (43) is currently with Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. Unfortunately for any hopeful City supporters, Davies has said that there is nothing in the rumours linking his side with the Serbian international.

With all of these bodies moving in, some balancing of the scales has to be done so that things don't get too much for Davies to manage. He said that more players could leave the building before the transfer deadline, adding to the dozen squad members that have already exited the squad since the end of last season.

Aleksandar Mitrovic move would have surely cemented Birmingham as the Championship favourites

For those of you who have played any of the FIFA or EA FC games over the last 10-15 years, you may have heard people reference certain players in the games as being OP (overpowered); players who were simply too good for any opponent that they came up against.

That would've been the case for Birmingham had they signed Mitrovic this summer - they would have been insanely OP.

A proven goalscorer at the highest level in this country, Mitrovic, even though he's a good few years older now than when he netted 43 times in the 2021/22 campaign, would have run through the Championship at St Andrew's.

It would've almost guaranteed them promotion to the Premier League. Anything less with him and the rest of the talent that Davies has available to him would be an abject failure. Thankfully for the rest of the Championship, that scenario is only a fantasy for Blues.
