Julian Nagelsmann named a strong starting XI for the short trip to Augsburg here but were given a bloody nose after only nine minutes.

Mads Pedersen struck early on totally against the run of play, but it wasn’t too long before Bayern were back on level terms.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, on a rare start, grabbed an equaliser just before the half hour mark.

Into the second half and with Bayern in complete control now, they got themselves in front.

Joshua Kimmich was the hour of the hour – almost on the hour – as he netted.

Choupo-Moting wasn’t done for the night either as he grabbed his second of the night, and eighth in just four DFB Pokal games.

But just when it looked as if Bayern were cruising to the third round Dayot Upamecano put one into his own net with 25 minutes remaining.

Nagelsmann’s side did regain their two-goal advantage however as Jamal Musiala got himself on the scoresheet before Alphonso Davies made it five late on.
