Chivas midfielder Javier Eduardo ‘Chofis’ López was punished on Monday after his girlfriend published content on social media showing the 25-year-old at a party.

Mexican journalist David Medrano revealed that sporting director Ricardo Peláez has imposed a severe economic fine.

“Eduardo ‘La Chofis’ López has been sanctioned by Ricardo Peláez for the modest amount of 454 thousand Mexican pesos (almost $20,000), an amount that is equivalent two months salary.

“The reasons for the sanction was because the midfielder failed to comply with the agreement to quarantine since he decided to go out to a party in the municipality of Zapopan.”

Liga MX has been shut down for over two months now. Should the season resume, Chivas will most likely kick back off against Jornada 11 opponents Querétaro.
