Crowd violence marred the aftermath of Saturday’s Clásico Tapatío as fans of Atlas and Chivas clashed following the latter’s 2-1 victory at the Estadio Jalisco.

TUDN reports that trouble erupted when Chivas fans attacked Atlas fans at the southern end of the ground.

The situation intensified when Atlas supporters from Barra 51 responded in kind, leading to punches being traded and bottles being thrown.

Security at the venue were eventually able to intervene and restore calm.

Some of the injured parties entered the field to escape the trouble, including one man with a nasty cut to his face.

The game itself was a typically feisty and physical Guadalajara derby, with both teams being reduced to 10 men in the first half.

Chivas took the lead in the 19th minute when Atlas failed to deal with an Alexis Vega corner and Jesús Molina was on hand to hammer home from close range.

Vega then saw red in the 34th minute when he followed through with a stamp on Germán Conti.

Atlas would only enjoy their numerical advantage for four minutes before Hugo Martín Nervo was dismissed for a lunge that caught the standing foot of Uriel Antuna.

It got worse for the hosts shortly before half time when Chivas striker José Juan Macías found the net to give Los Rojiblancos a 2-0 lead.

Atlas were given a glimmer of hope five minutes from time when Mauricio Cuero converted a penalty, but the visitors held on to secure all three points.

It was a third consecutive league win for Luis Fernando Tena’s men, lifting the Flock into fifth place in the table.
