Chivas started the night outside the play-off places and were desperate to get their night started right and did so just before the half-time whistle.

After Chivas earned a penalty, Ángel Zaldívar spanked his effort into the bottom corner to give the hosts a much-needed lead.

However, the lead would last less than 10 minutes as Jesús Gallardo thumped home a corner in stoppage time to send the two teams into the dressing room tied at one.

At the hour-mark, Sebastián Vegas would give Monterrey the advantage as he finished a well-worked team move, supplying a heated effort from 12 yards.

10 minutes later, Arturo ‘Poncho’ González virtually ended the game, coolly finishing off a Luis Romo cross, though Miguel Jiménez should have done much better.

The win puts Monterrey into fourth place while Chivas remain in 14th.
