Chivas striker JJ Macías out for 'up to nine months' after knee surgery | OneFootball

Chivas have confirmed that José Juan Macías underwent successful knee surgery on Friday, and that his recovery period will take seven to nine months to complete.

The striker suffered the season-ending injury in training before last weekend’s Apertura opener against Juárez.

In a statement released via their website, the Flock said: “This morning, we went into the operating room with José Juan and we directly saw the anterior cruciate ligament completely torn.

“We were also able to visualise a lateral meniscus injury, which was repaired.

“The procedure lasted approximately one hour. A cadaver graft was placed for the ligament and a meniscectomy was performed for the meniscus, a small piece of the meniscus is cut and removed.

“As of today, the prognosis we have is between seven and nine months for JJ to be able to return to the field, always depending on his evolution.”

If that prediction holds true, the 22-year-old will be back to play at least some part in the 2023 Clausura.
