América and Chivas played out a disappointing Clásico Nacional stalemate on Saturday.

Chivas started the brighter at the Estadio Azteca, with Alexis Vega getting in behind the América defence only to be denied by a combination of defender Jorge Sánchez and goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.

Tempers began to flare as the first half progressed, and Chivas defender Miguel Ponce was lucky to escape with just a yellow card for a forceful hand into the face of Azulcrema striker Henry Martín.

Martín had two great chances for the hosts around the hour mark, but the Mexico international was unable to find a way past Raúl Gudiño.

Las Águilas continued to look the more likely to make a breakthrough, yet the Flock defended resolutely under the stewardship of interim manager Marcelo Michel Leaño.

The draw moves América just clear of Toluca at the top of the table, while Los Rojiblancos extend their unbeaten streak to five games as they sit in eighth place.
