Chivas have been reportedly analysing a proposal from Rayados of Monterrey that would finally see them bring in 10-time Mexico international centre-back César Montes.
According to Mexican newspaper El Universal, Chivas have been ‘obsessed’ with the defender and are desperate to land Montes before he begins his European career.
The report claims that Montes is worth about $6m, which is far too much to pay for a centre-back in Mexico, especially given the current situation.
So, to be able to bring the player in, Chivas would be tasked with finding a player to send to Rayados to reduce the total cost who is not only interested in joining Monterrey, but a player that wouldn’t cripple Chivas.
Hiram Mier, Alexis Peña, Antonio Briseño, and the young Gilberto ‘Tiba’ Sepúlveda could all be options while ‘Chofis’ López would not be as he only has six months remaining on his current deal.
The most likely scenario, as reported by El Universal, would be for Cristian ‘Chicote’ Calderón to make the switch to replace the outgoing Miguel Layún.
However, Chivas would still have to fend off any European suitors. Turkish giants Galatasaray have been linked to Montes in the last couple months.
