Chivas has their sights set on signing veteran goalkeeper Hugo González for the 2022 Apertura season.

ESPN claim the Guadalajara giants are looking to bring on the 31-year-old shot-stopper out of Rayados in an effort to replace the outgoing Raúl Gudiño.

González is highly-regarded by the Chivas board, who have already made their preliminary approach with Rayados regarding a potential deal.

Since the Monterrey-based club chose not to trigger the purchase option on González’s contract, a deal could be likely, with the shot-stopper spending last season on loan at FC Juárez.

As such, González is expected not to report to pre-season training under Rayados and former Chivas manager Victor Manuel Vucetich.

While a move would help displace the loss of Gudiño, this is by no means a straight shot at a starting role for González, either.

Instead, Chivas goalkeeper Miguel Jiménez, who featured as a starter in the 2022 Clausura, could retain his role between the sticks in the upcoming campaign.

González made 30 appearances for FC Juárez last season, and has five international appearances with Mexico since 2018, with his last two call-ups coming in 2020.
