After weeks of training on his own, Chivas and centre-back Jair Pereira reached an agreement to terminate the player’s contract with one year remaining on his current deal.
On Wednesday, Chivas released an official statement confirming the departure of the 32-year-old after five-and-a-half years at the club.
“Club Deportivo Guadalajara report that they have reached an agreement with Jair Pereira for the termination of his contract, which was given on the best terms and conditions for both parties.”
After 153 games with the club, Pereira is now free to sign for the team of his choosing after Chivas failed in their attempts to sell the player.
Toluca, Queretaro, Puebla, and Necaxa were all interested in Pereira but backed off after learning of his monthly wages of 1.3m pesos (€60,000).
It will be interesting to see if Pereira will consider moving to Major League Soccer side San Jose Earthquakes given his close relationship with former Chivas boss Matías Almeyda.
