Against all odds, Chivas and their magical run toward a potential Liguilla final continued on Wednesday night as they played to an unlikely and very entertaining 1-1 draw with regular-season champions Club León.

Though Chivas allowed León to have the bulk of possession (63%), most notably in the first half, the home side were able to cancel out Fernando Navarro’s excellent opening goal thanks to some excellent second-half play.

After Alexis Vega and José Juan Macías came on at half-time, Chivas enjoyed an injection of pace early on and equalised through a 52nd-minute Macías penalty after a lapse in judgement by goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota.

Cota was caught well away from the goal in a bad position and unnecessarily took out Uriel Antuna, which forced the referee to immediately point to the spot.

Chivas nearly bundled home a winner in the 78th minute but Colombian defender Andrés Mosquera was there to make a spectacular goal-line clearance.

León had plenty of opportunities to take a 2-1 advantage into the second leg but Raúl Gudiño came up with a jaw-dropping save on the line on the eve of stoppage time to keep the two sides level.

Cruz Azul and Pumas will do battle in the other semi-final on Thursday night.
