Federico Chiesa played the full 90 minutes in Liverpool’s FA Cup clash at Plymouth Argyle but was unable to make an impact as his side was shockingly knocked out of the competition by the Championship outfit.

Coach Arne Slot gave the Italy international his fourth start of the season, in a line-up which also included forwards like Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, but that wasn’t enough to make the Reds dangerous, as they only managed four shots on target throughout the match.

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler had said before the match that Chiesa needed to ‘show the work rate’, but as much as the whole team had an uninspiring afternoon, his stats made him stand out as one of the worst players on the pitch.

The 27-year-old completed just one of 10 dribblings attempted and lost possession 29 times, boasting a passing accuracy of just 66%.

ITV Sport pundit Karen Carney was also critical of the winger’s performance after the match: “Chiesa, to be honest, I thought was poor,” he said.

“All Liverpool fans, after his injuries and stuff, are probably wanting him to do well but way off the boil today – not good enough.”

Chiesa started his last game for Liverpool in their last Champions League fixture against PSV Eindhoven, which ended in a 3-2 defeat, at the end of a month that saw him linked with a return to Serie A.
