LA Galaxy withstood a late surge to win on the road at New England Revolution on Sunday.

Scorers: C Gil 82′; Aguirre 4′, Hernández 15′

The visitors caught New England cold in the opening minutes with a goal that the Revolution will surely feel was far too easy.

Goalkeeper Jonathan Bond found Javier Hernández, and ‘Chicharito’ was allowed to turn under little pressure. His through ball found Daniel Aguirre who slotted home to give his side the perfect start.

Chicharito was then the beneficiary of a precision pass from Riqui Puig, with the former Barcelona midfielder splitting the Revs’ defence to allow the Mexico international to double the Galaxy’s lead.

The Revs spurned a few great chances to score as the game headed towards the break.

DeJuan Jones somehow contrived to hit the upright with the goal at his mercy, before the left-back turned provider only for Emmanuel Boateng to direct his shot straight at Bond.

With New England enjoying a lot of joy down the flanks captain Carles Gil skied a shot over from close range when it looked like he certain to half the deficit.

Gil would atone for that miss eight minutes from time when he curled a left-footed beautiful effort into the top corner to give his side renewed hope of a positive result.

However the Galaxy were able to hold on to move up to seventh in the Western Conference and into the play-off spots.

The loss leaves the Revs in ninth and still scrambling to make the post-season.
