Chelsea have made it to their mini winter break in 9th place in the Premier League.
A good run of results against some weaker teams too the edge off what was ultimately a disappointing first half of the season.
The Blues have 9 wins and 8 losses. They will have wanted significantly more than that. Their 41.6 xG (FBRef) is second in the league, only behind Liverpool, showing how much we’ve unperformed that. We’ve scored just 35 goals from that xG. An interesting note is that we have just 13.24 shots per game. That’s 11th in the league.
Some better finishing will be the difference between keeping this mid table spot for the rest of the year or climbing significantly. Can Armando Broja step up? Can Nicolas Jackson start taking more chances? Will a new signing make the difference? Anything seems possible now, but we’ve suffered with bad finishing for so many years now that we feel like it will never end.
