Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana set to withdraw from France squad

Chelsea centre-back Wesley Fofana (23) is set to withdraw from the France squad, according to reports from L’Equipe and RMC Sport. The France international centre-back is expected to remain in London to treat growing pains in his knee, preventing Fofana from playing consecutive football games with Chelsea. The Blues’ medical staff are expected to contact their French counterparts to ask them not to take risks with Fofana. The Saint-Etienne Academy product reportedly suffers from inflammation in his knee.

France will conclude their Nations League campaign in the A2 group with games against Israel, this Thursday at the Stade de France, and Italy, this Sunday at San Siro. Should Wesley Fofana throw the towel, Loïc Badé (24) would be the logical choice to replace him. The Sevilla centre-back was part of the France squad for the last two international breaks.
