Chelsea’s new setup explained with Hakim Ziyech in unusual position

Chelsea will soon have most of their first team squad fit and their new signings integrated, but in the meantime Graham Potter is still being forced into some funny selections.

When we first saw today’s lineup we weren’t at all sure what was going on. Lewis Hall had kept his place in the team after 2 games in a row at left wing back, but now Marc Cucurella was in the team too.

We’ve figured it out now we think – Hall is in a midfield 3, alongside Jorginho and Conor Gallagher as the most attacking of the 3, pressing high against Liverpool’s back line.

Cucurella has taken his place a left back – Hakim Ziyech is playing a sort of right wing back with Mason Mount pushed up to left wing.

We quite like the way it allows Ziyech to deliver left footed passes over the top and inside from deep.

It’s a huge test for Hall however, playing his first game for the senior team in midfield at Anfield.
