With the World Cup almost over, attentions are turning back to club football, and the Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella has just published a really interesting piece which has a few details about Chelsea’s January.
The new owners have been scrambling to put together a transfer team since they came to the club, and their new head of recruitment – Paul Winstanley – has apparently flown to Qatar to meet his new bosses Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.
Some of the other new faces coming in to work behind the scenes are on gardening leave or have yet to finalise a deal with us, so it’s great to know that at least one influential figure for our strategy in the future is already out there working on things.
He and the owners apparently were there in the stadium to see Chelsea’s friendly defeat to Aston Villa, featuring the harrowing sight of young striker Armando Broja rupturing his ACL.
If they didn’t realise how vital this January was before that, they certainly will now.
