Inter could look to two former players to replace the stricken Christian Eriksen next season, with Chelsea’s Matteo Kovacic and Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho among the names linked.

Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport report that the Nerazzurri are weighing up their options in midfield for next season with the Dane expected to miss all or most of the season.

One possibility would be to rely on the contributions of 25-year-old Italian international Stefano Sensi, but given that the player missed much of last season through injury it is thought that the club are looking for a more reliable option.

Chelsea’s Matteo Kovacic is one option, and could be a player who the Nerazzurri could negotiate for given the London club’s interest in signing Inter man Achraf Hakimi, thought the Blues are not thought to currently be offering Kovacic.

Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho is another possibility, with the Brazilian currently out of favour at the Camp Nou.

Real Madrid could also loan one of Martin Odegaard and Dani Ceballos to Inter for the season, with the pair returning from loan spells at Arsenal.

One more name that has emerged is that of AC Milan playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu, with the Turk out of contract on June 3o, and his entourage thought to have offered him to Inter.
