Chelsea’s Huijsen plans made clear by latest insider report – with Fofana future decided

The Independent had a rare transfer exclusive this morning where they reported on Chelsea’s chase for Dean Huijsen.

Our interest in the Bournemouth defender has been known for a while, but it was this morning’s report from Miguel Delaney which really emphasised how far ahead of the competition we are at this point. While the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool are interested, we’re really interested, and determined to get a deal done as soon as the season ends.

Perhaps slightly caught on the back foot by the fact he was scooped by Delaney, the Telegraph’s Chelsea man Matt Law has hit back this afternoon with a more detailed pieced looking at our interest in the 19 year old.

According to Law, Chelsea want Huijsen because they want a “ball-playing central defender to complement Wesley Fofana… and help mitigate the impact of his absence through injuries.”

Maresca views Fofana as “crucial to his style of football,” and it’s no coincidence that our form this season started to decline the moment the Frenchman went down injured.

Huijsen likely to be tempted by Chelsea regardless of finishing position

On Huijsen’s side, it’s reported that our interest is “likely to be attractive to him, whether or not the club qualifies for next season’s Champions League.”

Fofana will have to be heavily managed for the rest of his career, even if he does manage to avoid injury next season. So Huijsen does have a superb chance of getting a lot of minutes next season, either alongside Levi Colwill or Fofana, and playing in the Europa League would still be a good next step for him even if we miss out on the Champions League.

The Independent report says we want Huijsen signed up in time for the Club World Cup, and if you go by Law’s report, that seems more than possible.
