Chelsea defender Aniek Nouwen has signed a contract extension with the club.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blues this afternoon.

The 25-year-old Dutch international centre-back was set to become a free agent in July, however, she will now remain a Chelsea player until summer 2026 after extending her contract at Kingsmeadow.

Nouwen joined Chelsea from PSV in summer 2021. The player has gone on to make 27 appearances for the South West Londoners in all competitions in which she has scored two goals. Nouwen has played a part in Chelsea’s title successes in the last three seasons while she was also an Adobe Women’s FA Cup winner with the club in 2021/2022.

After extending her contract at Chelsea, Nouwen said “I am very grateful for this extension and the trust. I am looking forward to returning to action and continuing my journey.”

Nouwen has not been able to make a significant contribution to the team over the last 12 months. She sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury whilst representing The Netherlands’ Under-23 side in December 2023 and has since been in rehabilitation. The player is nearing fitness and could go out on loan in the second half of the season.
