Finally some really fresh, really believable, and potentially really significant transfer news regarding this summer has broken.

Ian Maatsen has been sent on loan by Chelsea to Borussia Dortmund with the intention of selling him to the German side in the summer. So far so good – he made an instant impact and already looks like he will easily fetch the money we want for him.

Things could be about to get even better, too. With Alphonso Davies on the way out, it seems that Bayern Munich are starting to take an interest in the left wing back.

That’s according to the usually reliable Florian Plettenberg, who says Bayern are “watching his situation closely,” although with “nothing concrete at this stage.”

It’s all likely to hinge on Davies’ situation, but regardless of whether they take this interest to the next stage, it’s great news for Chelsea as they look to ramp up a bidding war before a crucial summer of sales comes around. Maatsen has a £35m release clause in this loan setup – but we could yet get more if multiple clubs are offering.

Of course what’s truly mad is that Chelsea will also be in the market for a left back…
