David Luiz could be on his way out of Chelsea as the club have a policy not to offer more than one-year deals to players over 30.
The 31-year-old has impressed under new boss Maurizio Sarri and scored a superb header in Saturday’s win over Manchester City.
Chelsea are reportedly looking to keep Luiz, with a 12-month contract on the table.
According to the Guardian, the player wants to stay but is looking to sign a longer deal.
The report suggests Chelsea are unwilling to budge on their policy with older players, causing a stand off.
“We are still talking, let’s see,” Luiz said to the Evening Standard on Monday. “Let’s see what the future brings. I love this club, everybody knows I want to stay.
“I am just trying to enjoy, like every single day, Then, for sure, we will do the best thing for me, for Chelsea, for everybody.”
The Brazilian defender has started 15 of Chelsea’s 16 Premier League games so far this season and the Blues will hope to convince him to remain at the club on a short-term deal.
