“Prem soon come.”
That was what Cole Palmer said after scoring for Manchester City against Swindon Town in the FA Cup back in January 2022, referring to his hopes of also scoring in the Premier League.
But despite having scored in the FA Cup, the EFL Cup, the Champions League, the Community Shield and even the UEFA Super Cup, the 21-year-old’s first Premier League goal had proved elusive.
Until now.
After joining the club in a £45m switch from City late in the transfer window, Palmer started for Chelsea when they travelled to face Burnley on Saturday.
And when the Blues were awarded a penalty for a Vitinho foul on Raheem Sterling in the second half, it was Palmer who stepped up to stroke home his first ever Premier League goal.
It took him 24 appearances in the competition before he got on the scoresheet, but good things come to those who wait.
Prem has come.
