The final Ballon d’Or rankings have been announced, with Lionel Messi taking home the 2021 award.

There were 5 Chelsea players in the top 30 following their Champions League win, the highest number ever, and the joint highest of any European club.

After Cesar Azpilicueta in 29th, Mason Mount was next up in 19th.

Then came Romelu Lukaku in 12th, N’Golo Kante in 5th and Jorginho in 3rd.

The Italian midfielder was the only player on the shortlist to win both the Euros and the Champions League this season.

Overall it felt like just rewards for a brilliant season by so many of our first team stars. At the current rate, their numbers will only grow next year.

Edouard Mendy was beaten to the Kopa award for goalkeepers by just Gigi Donnarumma, who appeared to win on the back of some good showings at the Euros and a bigger name (no pun intended) than because of anything else.

Our only other question is – where is Thiago Silva?
