Tammy Abraham has been a revelation for Chelsea this season.

The Blues striker currently sits as the second top scorer in the Premier League on 11 goals and is enjoying the best goal scoring debut campaign for a Chelsea player since Diego Costa.

In 2014/15 Costa arrived at Stamford Bridge and would go onto become a boisterous striker who would fiercely lead the line and find the back of the net with an alarming frequency, and that is precisely what he did. In his first four games, the Spanish international scored seven goals to warn the rest of the Premier League exactly what he was capable of.

Costa would go on to score 20 goals in his debut season at Chelsea, the most by any player in their first Premier League campaign. Though, he did not win the Golden Boot, as Sergio Aguero scored six more than his domestic rival to rob him of that accolade.

The man Costa went one better than was Nicolas Anelka after the Frenchman arrived at Stamford Bridge from Bolton Wanderers in 2008. He was sensational during that campaign, and even though Luis Felipe Scolari lost his job midway through the season, it did not deter the striker whose 19 goals collected him the Golden Boot. Though it was the second-lowest total ever to win the award, not Anelka would have minded.

Meanwhile, Abraham, valued at £28.8m (Transfermarkt), has the opportunity to get one over on both of those former Chelsea players, and he is on course to do so. So far, the striker has found the back of the net on 11 occasions in 16 appearances meaning if he maintains his strike rate, he should score around 26 goals this season.

Such a total would comfortably eclipse both Anelka and Costa’s debut terms for the Blues sending a message to his manager and fans of how far he could go in a Chelsea shirt. Achieving the feat would be the first step in becoming a Chelsea legend in his own right.
