Chelsea’s connection with Man City is well established at this point – we’ve got a bunch of their ex-players, coaches and academy staff.
But our connection with Brighton runs even deeper it seems, with another £50m+ set to be sent over to Sussex this week.
Joao Pedro is a couple of finishing touches away from becoming a new Chelsea player, and he will be the 14th player or member of staff who has made the switch according to the Sun’s piece today. They’ve done the maths and reckon it will be £257m now which has headed to the South Coast club from the West London outfit.

Of course the bulk of that was in just one player – Moises Caicedo moved for £100m two summers ago. It is a monster fee, but his performances in the last 8 months have shown exactly why we thought he was worth it.
Marc Cucurella was our second biggest buy from the Seagulls, coming in at around £62m. That is also a huge fee, but his crucial role in securing Champions League football this season has gone a long way to paying back a chunk of it.
Joao Pedro will be the third highest, with no final fee established, but an expected value north of £50m reported all round.
Then there was the bulk buy of Graham Potter and all his backroom staff, who were brought in and then paid off just 7 months later. The likes of sporting director Paul Winstanley and global talent scout Sam Jewell will also have brought some kind of compensation payment.
