The signing of Dario Essugo has fallen through the cracks a little this summer.

Fans are so concerned with the rumours linking us to new players that they’ve already moved on from the deals first announced earlier this year.

But Essugo, despite flying under the radar a little, is now a Blue, and has just given his first interview for the club’s official website.

“I’m very happy. It’s a big step to make early in my career. Every player dreams of getting to a big club and Chelsea is no exception. It’s a massive club and I’m feeling proud and very happy to be here,” the 20 year old said as he strolled around the green fields of Cobham for the first time.

“Honestly, Chelsea showed big interest in me. When that happens, you can’t turn it down. When my dad told me Chelsea were interested, I was very happy and here we are now!”

Essugo on his qualities as a player

Essugo was also happy to talk a little about what he will bring to Enzo Maresca’s squad on the pitch:

“I’m a very aggressive player, I love to win back possession and I love to govern the pitch. I love to win! I am also a player who loves to hold the ball, to create space with the ball and attack, but also help the defence when they need it.”

We expect him to be thrown into action right away, with the Club World Cup kicking off for the Blues in less than a week. The likes of Romeo Lavia, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez will be given very light duties, and that should mean plenty of minutes for the €22m man.
