Chelsea have submitted an offer to Barcelona of £15m cash plus Marcos Alonso (who is presumably worth a similar amount) for Barcelona striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, according to an exclusive from David Ornstein in the Athletic today.

Chelsea are a striker short and Barcelona need to shed some wages to balance the books – even though it’s clear they’d rather not lose Aubameyang. Eventually, even this Barca with its magical money tree has to face some form of financial reality.

To be honest, we HATE this deal.

The only reason to get it done is because Thomas Tuchel wants him, and the boss has done enough to prove to us that he deserves to be backed in the transfer market.

It’s not feasible to go into this season with only Armando Broja as a striker – but that has been clear all summer, and is no reason to blow loads of money on an old striker.
