It’s a couple of weeks since we reported on the exclusive that Chelsea are looking at Emmanuel Emegha from their sister club Strasbourg.

We’ve since heard nothing more on that front, which is a little curious given how well the piece of this rumour seem to fit together.

He’s 22 years old, he’s on very modest wages and he plays for a team which our owners own. He’s got an eye for goal and pace to burn. He’s certainly a rough diamond technically, but with every passing week he’s gaining experience and knowledge tactically working under Liam Rosenior.

The links to teams like Aston Villa and Everton make sense – but we’d be very surprised if our interest didn’t get more serious too. Nicolas Jackson needs a backup, and Emegha could be perfect for that role.

After racking up 8 Ligue 1 goals last season, he’s already up to 11 this campaign with room for more to come. He’s in the 97th percentile of players for non penalty expected goals per 90 minutes, and the 92nd for non penalty expected goals and assists.

FBRef have his number one statistically similar player as Moise Kean, with Erling Haaland and Dusan Vlahovic also rated as similar. That’s some impressive company for him.

A deal for Mamadou Sarr to join us from Strasbourg next summer is already in place. Could Emegha be the next off the production line? We certainly wouldn’t rule it out. Everything seems to be continuing to line up for make buying him this summer very sensible indeed.

Given the connections between the clubs, a deal could really come from nowhere and just be announced as done at any moment – so we’re not worried we’ve not heard more on this front.
