Chelsea make the trip to Newcastle United on Sunday lunchtime in a crucial clash.
Fourth meets fifth in the Premier League as both teams challenge for Champions League qualification. Chelsea head into the contest in confident mood with the West Londoners in search of a sixth straight win in all competitions.
On Thursday, Enzo Maresca’s side booked their place in the Europa Conference League final, where Real Betis await later this month. That semi-final win over Djurgardens followed a 3-1 victory over Premier League champions Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
However, Newcastle represent a tough challenge. The Magpies have won five consecutive games at St James’ Park and eliminated Chelsea from the Carabao Cup at the venue earlier in the season.
Enzo Maresca remains without Wesley Fofana whose season is over after hamstring surgery, though Chelsea are likely to be unchanged from last weekend’s win over Liverpool, in which Cole Palmer starred and broke his goal drought.
Moises Caicedo started that game at right-back, while Romeo Lavia impressed as the injury-hit midfielder finds his rhythm.
Marc Guiu’s return offers an alternative to Nicolas Jackson, with Christopher Nkunku still injured. MYkhailo Mudryk remains provisionally suspended.
Chelsea predicted XI: Sanchez; Caicedo, Chalobah, Colwill, Cucurella; Lavia, Fernandez; Neto, Palmer, Madueke; Jackson
Newcastle host Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday May 11th 2025. Kick-off at St James’ Park is 12:00pm BST.
The game will be shown live in the UK by TNT Sports.
