Chelsea would listen to a good offer for Kai Havertz, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

Bayern Munich are thought to have the German attacker on their radar, and Phillips thinks the west London club would consider a bid from them if one came in.

What is the latest news involving Havertz?

Phillips recently reported that Chelsea expect Bayern to make a serious approach for Havertz next summer.

The 23-year-old was a key player for former Blues manager Thomas Tuchel, playing 74 games under him before his dismissal at the start of September.

It remains to be seen how important he becomes for Graham Potter, though he did start in the Englishman’s first game in the Stamford Bridge dugout, suggesting that he has a role to play under his new boss.

Whatever the case, it appears that Havertz is attracting interest from Bayern, who he has been linked to before.

What has Phillips said about Havertz’s Chelsea future?

If Havertz does not show any improvement this season, Phillips thinks Chelsea would listen to Bayern’s offer should it arrive.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “I think this is a make-or-break season for Kai Havertz. If he doesn’t continue to grow and get better, then I think Chelsea would definitely listen to a good offer if it did come in from Bayern Munich or elsewhere. It really is on Kai Havertz.”

Why would Chelsea listen to offers for Havertz?

Havertz is obviously a quality player and showed as much in his debut season at Stamford Bridge after netting in the Champions League final win against Manchester City.

However, he has not proven to be a prolific attacker, managing just eight goals in 29 league appearances last term.

The £150,000-a-week Germany international does not have a set position either, often playing up front or behind the striker for the Blues. Simply put, it is now his third campaign in west London and it is not quite clear if he is an attacking midfielder, a centre-forward or a false nine.

When you consider all of the above, you can understand why Chelsea would consider selling Havertz. That being said, the former Bayer Leverkusen star is still just 23 years of age. He has time to improve and become more prolific and consistent.

Can Potter afford to wait for that to happen? It is hard to know now that the Blues are under new ownership. Perhaps Todd Boehly will be more patient than Roman Abramovich.

If it is made clear to Potter, though, that he needs results, then the ex-Brighton manager cannot wait on Havertz to find consistent form forever.
