There’s no doubt about it, Chelsea are one of the favourites for the Premier League title this season.

The Blues have built an impressive squad capable of both retaining their Champions League trophy and winning the league.

They spent more than £200 million last summer but it proved to be money very well spent as Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy and Thiago Silva all played an important role in helping the club become European champions.

This summer, they added Romelu Lukaku and Saul Niguez to form a quite incredible squad with ridiculous depth.

But one criticism of Chelsea’s system is that it doesn’t give many youngsters the opportunity to break into the first-team.

Sure, there are exceptions to the rule with Mason Mount breaking into the first-team in recent years but their youth system is full of talented players who spend most of their careers out on loan before being sold.

That was the story for three young brothers signed from Luton Town in January 2012.

Twelve-year-old twins Rio and Cole Dasilva, as well as their older 13-year-old brother Jay, were signed by the Blues for a five-figure sum each.

"This is a historic deal to see three brothers transferred together," Gregg Broughton, Luton's head of youth at the time, said.

"And now after six months, we are delighted that they have found a club where they are settled."If all three went on to represent Chelsea's first-team, the value of the deal would increase to over £1million.

But the three youngsters faced an incredibly tough task to play for one of the best sides in the country. That, sadly, didn't happen.

But how have they fared in the last nine years?

Jay Dasilva

You’ve probably heard of Jay.

Now 23, the defender plays for Bristol City in the Championship having represented England U21s on 13 occasions.

While at Chelsea, he failed to make a first-team appearance but did win the UEFA Youth League twice in 2014/15 and 2015/16.

He spent a season and a half at Charlton in League One before signing permanently for Bristol City, following a loan move.

There’s still time for Jay to make the grade in the Premier League.

Rio Dasilva

However, it’s been a tougher career for Rio to date.

A year younger, he left Chelsea at U16 level and, after a spell with Dunstable Town, Rio is now in the Southern League Premier Division Central with Hitchin Town.

Cole Dasilva

Rio’s twin lasted slightly longer at Chelsea, making 18 appearances for Chelsea's U21 side, as well as playing 27 times for the Blues' U19 team.

He had brief spells at Brentford and Leicester before making the move to HNK Sibenik in the Croatian top-flight.

Interestingly, Cole decided to represent Wales and made three appearances for their U21 side.
