Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang caused a bit of a stir when his role in a BT Sport advert promoting Sunday’s London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal went public.
The match at Stamford Bridge will be the first time the Gabonese striker has come face-to-face with the Gunners since his acrimonious exit at the start of the year.
Aubameyang initially signed for Barcelona after falling out with Mikel Arteta, before making the move back to London right at the end of the summer transfer window.
The striker was always going to be a hot topic of discussion in the build-up to Arsenal’s short trip to the western part of the capital, something BT Sport took advantage of.
In the advert produced by the broadcaster, Aubameyang drops comments such as: “Arsenal, nothing personal. I’m back. I’m blue. I’m ready.”
It was no surprise whatsoever that the footage didn’t go down well with the Arsenal contingent, with many questioning whether there was a need for it.
And it seems even Aubameyang himself wasn’t entirely convinced by the idea.
Behind-the-scenes footage from the advert shoot has found its way onto social media and the short video clip is quite telling.
In it, Aubameyang is told exactly what to say while looking into the camera and the look on his face at times suggests he wasn’t overly fond of the prompts coming his way.
Check out the footage and make up your own mind…
Interesting.
As soon as the person behind the camera said “Arsenal, nothing personal”, Aubameyang couldn’t help but laugh, as he probably – and correctly – envisioned the commotion those three words would cause.
Here’s how a selection of fans have reacted to the video…
Aubameyang will almost certainly be handed a start by Graham Potter for the match against Arsenal on Sunday and he’ll go into the game on the back of a fairly average start in a Chelsea shirt.
In his first 11 appearances for the Blues, the 33-year-old has scored only three goals, with just one coming in Premier League action.
Aubameyang will be desperate to add to the tally against Arsenal and if he does so in a Chelsea victory, he’ll become an instant hero at Stamford Bridge.
