Chelsea superstar Thiago Silva reacts as Brazil beat Switzerland to progress to the next round

Chelsea veteran centre-back Thiago Silva has taken to Instagram to send a message to his teammates after his nation Brazil secured qualification to the next round of the World Cup with a game to spare after beating Switzerland last night.

The Selecao emerged 1-0 winners over Switzerland thanks to a late goal from Casemiro following up their 2-0 win against Serbia. This means that Tite’s side has secured their progression to the round of 16 and the last game is a mere formality.

One player who had a standout performance in the game for Brazil was Thiago Silva indeed. It was yet another ageless display from the Chelsea centre-back with the 38-year-old using all his experience to prevent Breel Embolo from getting past him.

Thiago Silva knows his game so well that he understands his strengths and weaknesses perfectly. He knows he is not the fastest defender going around, but that never becomes a problem when he faces pacy players as he often shuts them down with inch-perfect anticipation.

It speaks volumes about the player’s ability that he is still going so strong at 38 and funnily enough, shows no signs of slowing down. He continues to be a mainstay for club and country and it feels like he still has a few years of football left in him.

Silva dropped a defensive masterclass against Switzerland last night. The Chelsea star had 95 touches of the ball, completing 79 of his 85 passes including one key pass and also completing a whopping six of his nine attempted long balls.

The 38-year-old also had one shot blocked, one out of three ground duels won, two out of two aerial duels won, four clearances, one tackle, one interception and was not dribbled past even once throughout the game. It was some display from the Blues veteran.

“First goal achieved!! We follow 🙏 congratulations boys”

If Brazil are to go far in this World Cup, there is no doubt that Thiago Silva has a huge role to play. He continues to impress as for now and let’s hope his career goes on for as long as possible.
