Chelsea target Anthony Gordon is still on the west London club’s shortlist but has fallen down it, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

While Jacobs says the Everton winger remains on their radar, the journalist believes he is no longer a priority for them.

What is the latest news involving Gordon?

According to football.london, Chelsea face competition from Tottenham if they decide to return for Gordon.

The Blues pursued the 21-year-old during the last transfer window but were unable to agree a deal with Everton in the end.

It could also be a similar story in January, with The Sun claiming that the Toffees value their wide man at £60m.

While Chelsea did miss out on Gordon, they were still able to strengthen their attack after bringing in Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Manchester City and Barcelona respectively.

What has Jacobs said about Gordon and Chelsea?

Jacobs has told GIVEMESPORT that Gordon is still on Chelsea’s shortlist but is not at the top of it.

Speaking to GMS, the CBS reporter said: “Although Gordon is definitely a player that is still on Chelsea’s radar, I think he’s fallen down the pecking order a little bit because, in that position, even though he’s quite versatile, they’ve got a number of other forward-minded and creative-minded players that are also pretty young.”

Should Gordon be a priority for Chelsea?

No. Looking at Graham Potter’s squad, the west London club really need to be focusing on strengthening their midfield rather than out wide.

As things stand, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are set to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season when their contracts expire.

Focusing on the former, even if he remains at the club, Chelsea will probably still need to plan for life after him due to his injury record. To be blunt, the Frenchman does not look like he has too many years left in west London.

Of course, Chelsea’s need for a winger could become more pressing if the likes of Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech depart.

Pulisic has only started one Premier League game this season, while Ziyech has made just five appearances in the top flight, so it would not be a surprise if both players pushed for transfers.

Potter would still have Sterling, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Callum Hudson-Odoi, who is set to return to Chelsea after his loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen, as attacking options, though. When you consider that, a couple of midfielders have to be the priority over someone like Gordon.
